Welcome to a very extraordinary world
In the North Indian state of Uttaranchal , about 11 km. from Ramnagar town and just 2 km. short of Dhela Forest Rest House, along the southern periphery of the Corbett National Park is Jim's Jungle Retreat . A retreat is a place that allows you to get away from it all and Jim's Jungle Retreat allows you to do just that. This Unit of Corbett Country Hotels is the labour of love of Mr.. Inder Pratap Akoi whose love affair with Corbett park started at a very early age. Jim's Jungle Retreat reflects his love of nature and is an ideal getaway from the trappings of urban life without depriving the visitor of the bare necessities of life. Our in-house naturalist Imran Khan brings a wealth of technical and scientific knowledge about the flora and fauna of the region.

Along the southern periphery of the Park about 11 Km. from Ramnagar town and just 2 Km. short of Dhela Forest Rest House, is Jim’s Jungle Retreat, surrounded by a reserved forest. Abutting the jungle on two sides are situated 12 huts, unique in their construction. Built with local materials, mainly, they are comfortable, with all modern- conveniences, yet simple, and close to nature in design. The huts have attached modern bathrooms, the rooms are spacious and have air conditioning. There is a private verandah to sit out on to enjoy the sights and sounds of the jungle. Slide shows and wild life films are projected in the thatched dining area before or after dinner. The Retreat also has a swimming pool. The Cuisine is an mixture of the “Raj” and the present. Some evenings you could even walk out to a surprise Indian Barbeque, hosted in true Shikar camp style. In all, an unforgettable experience for the “First Timer” and a nostalgic journey down memory lane for the “Old Timer”. |

Climate
There are three distinct seasons: Cold (November to February), Hot (March to mid-June) and Rainy (mid-June to October). Mean monthly maximum temperatures range from 26*C in January to 44*C in June, and minimum temperatures from 2*C in January to 21*C in August, based on data for 1980-1984. Annual rainfall varies from 1400mm in the outer hills to 2800mm in the upper hills, with 1500-1600mm in the main Ram Ganga Valley . Conditions are humid throughout the year, relative humidity rising to 98% in the monsoon and seldom falling below 57% even in the driest period (November). A wind locally known as 'dadu' blows down the valley from about 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. , lowering the night temperature. In the hot season, it is followed by a hot wind blowing up-valley from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. During this season a thick haze of suspended dust develops which is only cleared by thunderstorms.

In order to enjoy your stay at Jims Jungle Retreat, it is very important that you pack and plan properly. There are three distinct seasons: Cold (November to February), Hot (March to mid-June) and Rainy (mid-June to October), and each demands different clothing. If visiting in the Cold season it is important that you pack woolens properly, and have one wind breaker. Mornings and evenings especially during game drives and elephant rides can be very cold. In the Hot season, loose cotton clothes are advisable, while on nature walks wear long trousers so that the thorny undergrowth does not scratch you. Sensible walking shoes are the order of the day in all the seasons. If visiting the Retreat in the rainy season, a proper raincoat is far more useful than an umbrella. Always pack a spare pair of shoes to plan for unexpected rain.
It is always advisable to carry a reliable flashlight / torch with you. In case you have a particular medical condition it is essential that you pack your medicines. Ramnagar does have chemist shops but specialist medicines are not always available. Mosquito repellant is a must especially in the rainy season.
