Nestled in the hills of Bandipur lie a cluster of resorts in the Mangala valley. The Cottage lies at the base of Kardi-Betta hill, known for its leopard and bear sightings. It borders the Mangala Dam where herds of elephants and the resident male tiger are seen. Even if you don’t see them the chances are you will hear them roaring the night through.

Started in 1988, this cottage is the first ever establishment in Bandipur and was the beginning of eco-tourism being utilised as a tool for conservation in Karnataka.

With an amazing diversity of birdlife and wildlife at the resident waterhole makes spending time here truly exciting. Venture into our valley and enjoy a plethora of activities that bring you closer to nature and evoke a sense of adventure, tranquility and peace that very few others can offer. It is safe to say that no one knows Bandipur better than us.
The Bandipur Cottage is now open for all of you to come and enjoy. We want you to lose yourself amidst the romantic woods, ridden with history and spend time in a lost world, far from the maddening crowds.

Facilities

The three suites each have their own character. Suite 2 and 3 each have a bedroom, a small lounge, a fireplace and running hot water. Suite 1 has a larger bedroom with an attached bathroom and a fireplace which overlooks the garden and waterhole. The Cottage has a common dinning where guests can dine watch Tv, play Carom and boardgames, read and surf the internet.

Service

What separates us from the rest is our decision to stay small whilst keeping your level of interaction with others on a very familiar level. Unlike other resorts, at The Cottage you will only see your friends and family, if at all. We are small and intimate and can cater to every need of yours. Our dedicated staff with a chef, a unique manager, a masseuse and other tribal staff makes the experience unique as we focus on truly personalizing your stay.

Elephant Suite

The bedroom is large and sleeps two. Its called the elephant suite as a few of our guests have woken up to find elephants walking past their window. The reading room with a bonfire, is also very spacious and an extra bed can be accommodated in this space with ease. The bathroom has ample space and running hot and cold water in the rain shower with a flush loo. He entrance is a small private affair adding to the romance.

Chital Suite

The bedroom is small and cozy with a fireplace. It looks out into the teak plantation and more often than not you will have wildlife grazing but a few yards from the window. It’s truly a magnificent wildlife experience where people have jumped out of their skins at night even as the spotted deer roared their rutting calls. A few have seen leopard stalking wild boar from the window. The bed is not large and just perfect for a loving couple. If you like space when you sleep then its suggested that one person can sleep in the single bed in the attached room.

Wild Boar Room

– The bedroom is large overlooking a waterhole and has its own fireplace. It looks out into open where you could find wildlife drinking water bot in the day and night. In the dry season elephants use this waterhole with regularity. The bed is large and comfortable. The bathroom has a bath, running hot and cold water in the shower and a flush loo.

Facilities

Kitchen – Our staff are from the districts of Mandya, Chamrajnagar and Mysore. You will find wholesome delicious Indian food at the camp as our cook Zarina is a wizard with the spices. In her happiness lies the quality of food and we bend backwards to ensure that she has everything that she needs and more.

Activities

There is no doubt that as far as the wildlife experience goes this is the best that you will get. With game around the cottage, the truly wonderful activities will help you slip away from the daily pressures of city life. The Mangala valley is a combination of fringe bush forests. Ideal places for wildlife to hideaway in the day and fields where the animals come out to feast at night, inviting local ire. Its in the heart of this conflict that we take you. Amazing sightings of elephants, gaur, leopard and even bear and tiger can be had on treks. Most activities need prior intimation.

Location

– is bang in the heart of the surreal Mangala Valley – the renowned region so aptly described in the book “Wild Tales from the Wild” by Saad bin Jung takes you into a world where invading influences have not as yet touched the tenderness of nature. Drive on the Mysore-Ooty Highway. 18 kilometers after Gundulpet you will arrive at the Bandipur Forest Office. Hang a left on the tar road immediately after the Bandipur police station en-route to Mangala Village. After around 4 1/2 you will see a board on the right that reads ‘Saad bin Jung’s – The Bandipur Cottage”. Welcome to heaven!
