KHAJJIAR.
6400 glorious feet above sea level, 22 kms. from Dalhousie
in Distt. Chamba is having one of the most picturesque
saucer shaped plateau in its' heart, surrounded by
dense pine and giant deodar forests along spongy meadow
of around 1.5 kms. long and 1.0 Km. broad. It has
a magical WATER BABY LAKE with a floating island in
between.

old ancient temple of KHAJJI NAG with golden dome
exists here. The place has a soothing and refreshing
quietness in atmosphere. In fact, KHAJJIAR is a HONYMOONERS'
PARADISE and that's why it is called as the GULMARG
OF HIMACHAL. The forest between Dalhousie and Khajjiar
abound in wild life. In the higher regions, near snowline,
are found the Snow leopards, the Ibex, the Marmots
and at lower elevations Brown bear, Musk deer, Leopards,
Wild pigs and Wild fowl can be seen. Some of the area
has now been covered under WILD LIFE SANCTUARY. The
resort has been renamed as 'MINI SWITZERLAND' of INDIA
by Mr. Willy P. Blazer, the vice counselor and head
of chancery of Switzerland in India.

Location
Situated in the northwestern part of the Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh, Khajjiar is 22 km from Dalhousie and 24 km from Chamba.

Khajjiar once formed part of the famous Rajput rulers of Chamba. It served as the capital of the Chamba rulers in the in the 6th century AD. In the medieval period, it came under the Mughal dominion and various Sikh kingdoms, which followed the former. Finally, it was brought under the control of the British. Today it is in the state of Himachal Pradesh. |

small tourist spot, Khajjiar is accessible only
by road. Bus services connect it to different towns
in the Chamba valley. Buses from Chamba (1½
hour) and Dalhousie (1½ hour) stop at this
picnic spot. Tourists can also reach the place by
taxis, which can be hired at both Dalhousie and
Chamba. Experience the scintillating beauty of the
place strolling through the meadow.
Best time to visit
Khajjiar experiences mild climate during the summer
months of April-June, while the winter is cold.
The southwestern monsoon rains lashes the hill resort
of Khajjiar in July-September. The best time to
visit Khajjiar is between March and June
