Places to visit
Golden Temple- Amritsar is known world over for its architectural beauty. It is not only the central religious place of Sikhs, but also a symbol of human brotherhood. Everybody, irrespective of caste /race can visit the shrine to seek religious fulfillment and divine solace. It is open 24 hours for its visitors and allows anyone to stay in premise with 24 hours parshada (food) service. The most suitable time to visit the temple is either the early morning hours or during night to see the the gurudwara lit completely.
Jallianwala Bagh- Adjacent to Golden Temple is the Jallianwala Bagh, a historical monument which is known for a very inhuman massacre conducted during year 1919 by British rulers. Lot of tourists visits this place to see the visible bullet marks on the walls which were fired during the massacre. Bagh is open during day time only.
Durgiana Temple- Shri Durgiana temple is one of the main pilgrim places in Amritsar. Built in 16th century, this temple closely resembles Golden Temple in style and architecture. It is situated a few yards away from railway station and about 1.5 kms from the bus stand. The temple has a dome and a tank which is considered sacred by Hindu followers.
Wagha Border- The Wagha border is a ceremonial border between India-Pakistan where a retreat ceremony takes place (lowering of flags).The Indian Border Security Force and Pakistani Rangers put up a very energetic parade every day. Troops of each country put on a show in their uniforms and colorful turbans. A patriotic ambience is created for the nationalists of both countries while the parade takes place and this is one of the most memorable experiences of your Amritsar visit.
