Barog was named after a British engineer Mr. Barog, who was building the railway track in 1903 inspite of being advised not to do so, started digging a tunnel near the railway station from both sides of the giant hill simultaneously and ultimately the two sides of the tunnel did not meet each other. Barog was fined Re. 1 by the British Govt. Mr. Barog committed suicide and was buried near the incomplete tunnel. Later another tunnel was built by HS Harrington. This is the longest of the operational tunnels on the Shimla-Kalka railway and is considered the straightest tunnel in the world surrounded by Pine Forests. Barog is a small hill which is a holiday spot for tourists.
