Hotel Tea Bud
Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.

In local parlance, the word for lot of water is "pulum". This is what has given Palampur (1249 m) its name and its water has given the valley so much of its character. Countless streams criss-cross the landscape and in their intricate mesh, hold tea gardens and rice fields. The town came into being when tea plantation was introduced in the 19th century and Palampur became a focus for the planters. Kangra tea, with its center at Palampur, has been internationally acclaimed since then.

To further bless the area with remarkable natural beauty, the Dhauladhar ranges rise dramatically just beyond Palampur. The town itself has interesting colonial architecture and the area around is richly garnished with historical temples and forts and scores of picturesque hamlets.

PALAMPUR Set against the backdrop of the majestic Dhauladhar Mountains, Palampur derives its place name from the local word plum, or 'lots of water'. And water certainly abounds here. There are large rivulets-like the turbulent Bundla Khud-small streams and tiny brooks. It is this bounty of water and the unique character of the climate-cool breezes laden with moisture from the snows and warm sunshine-that have given Palampur the tea gardens that surround the own. Palampur owes much of its early rise and prosperity to tea-which attracted several European tea planters and their families. Several important Hindu shrines surround and a variety of sightseeing is at hand. Panchkarma therapy at Palampur is offered at Himachal Tourism Hotel Tea-Bud.
