The LION SAFARI CAMP at Gir National Park A Luxury Wildlife Camp is owned and managed by Camps of India. It is located in a private mango orchard overlooking the Hiran River.The location presently has around 900 Mango Trees with only 2% of the entire land area being built so that the natural setting is maintained. This eco-friendly camp has 21 AC Luxury Tents each with large well furnished bedroomsand an attached en-suite bathrooms. All the tents are beautifully furnished with natural materials and open out to an extended deck - An ideal place to sit and relax amongst nature.

GIR NATIONAL PARK is the last remaining bastion of the Asiatic Lion. It also has the highest population of Leopards compared to any other national park in making it one of the best places in India to see the Big Cats. The Kamleshwar dam in the middle of the sanctuary is home to a record population of marsh crocodiles.
Other wildlife includes Chital (spotted dear), Nilgai (blue bull), Wild boar, Jackals, Hyenas, etc. Gir National Park also has over 300 different varieties of birds.

All the 21 tents are beautifully furnished with natural materials and have an extended deck. The deck is the ideal place to sit and relax sipping a cool drink while you enjoy the sounds and sights of nature.

The open air restaurant overlooks the Hiran River. A choice of Indian, Chinese and Continental food is available. There is a barbeque in the evenings. We also bake our own breads and confectionary.
Fresh seafood can be arranged on a days advance notice.

Don't forget to ask the chef for his special mango pickle and other dishes made from mango during the mango season. Picnic lunch or tea can also be arranged at the nearby scenic locations. Whether there is a special occasion or you just feel like it we can arrange a candlelight dinner for two at the camp.

Our Jungle Safaris are of highest quality and are accompanied by a naturalist in open 4/4 Custom-made 6 seat Gypsies with canvas tops which are exclusively used in our camps. The Lion safari offers a fair cross-section of habitats and wildlife of Gir.

Safaris
Gir is the only place in the world outside Africa, where the Lion can be seen in its natural habitat. Due to the high density of lions, spotting is very good. Gir is also home to one of the largest Leopard populations in any park in India, making it an excellent place to see big cats of a different kind.

Other wildlife to look out for are the Four-Horned Antelope (the only four-horned ungulate in the world), Indian Gazelle (Chinkara), Spotted Deer (Chital), Blue Bull (Nilgai), Wild Boar, Wolf, Hyena, Jackal, Jungle Cat, Hare and other mammals found in the forest. A Colourful array of birds can also be spotted. Some of the interesting birds are Paradise Flycatcher, Grey Drongo, Grey & Painted Francolin, Painted Sandgrouse, Bush Quail, Crested Hawk Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle, Bonnelli's Eagle, Shikra Hawk,Sirkeer Cuckoo and White-necked Stork.

The Maldharis
Gir Is The Home Of The Maldharis, A Term Used For The Many Hindu And Muslim Pastoral Groups Of The Area. The Maldhars Live In Traditional Settlements Called Nesses And Tend Jafrabadi Buffalos, Gir Cows And Other Livestock. Some Of Them Also Have Camels, Sheep And Goats. Among The Best-Known Pastoral Groups Of Gir Is The Sorathi Rabari.

The Siddhis
Siddis Are A Negroid Community Tracing Their Ancestry To Africa. Believed To Have Come From African Countries As Mercenaries, Slaves And Labour, The Siddis Grew To Become Powerful Generals, Some Of Them Even Became Rulers. In Gir, There Are Villages Of The Siddis, Who Are Well Known For Their Dances And Other Performances, And A Major Shrine For The Community.
